About Cameron Karren

I was born in the Sacramento area and have had a love for music and recording since I first learned to play guitar as a 10-year-old and use a 4-track recorder. Besides playing guitar, I also sing and play bass, drums and piano. I'm the lead for the punk band Addalemon, for which I write and record all music. I graduated from CSU Monterey Bay with a degree in Audio Engineering and have since 2020 worked with Pus Cavern Recording Studio's Joe Johnston, award winning recording artist for Cake.

 

Philosophy and Recording Process

My recording philosophy is to harness an artist’s talent and vision and make it reality. I immerse myself in their music, becoming in effect another band member to truly understand the song and make it great. I prefer meeting the band and listening to them practice or perform live prior to starting recording. I think bands record best when all members are playing at the same time and feeding off each other’s energy as opposed to recording separately.

 

Having a good song, with ideas and concepts fully fleshed out is ideal. Computers are great recording tools, but nothing can replace solid writing, musicianship, and planning that makes a song sound natural and cohesive.

Values

My values are to be attentive to an artist’s needs and fostering a creative, low-stress environment. Recording can be hard work, but it should always be a fun process, and the results will be worth it. Recording, mixing, and mastering is just the cherry on top of a well thought out and executed song.
